I am Laura Blanchard, a British violinist and violin teacher working across London, Buckinghamshire, and Bedfordshire.

My teaching is rooted in the belief that technical rigour and artistic expression are inseparable. The violin demands precision, but it also requires imagination, listening, and an understanding of musical architecture — line, harmony, phrasing, and colour working as one.

Each student is guided to develop a secure technical foundation while cultivating a thoughtful, individual musical voice.

Teaching approach

My work focuses on building reliable technique as the basis for expressive freedom.

Lessons are structured, focused, and adapted to the needs of each student, with attention given to both detail and long-term development.

Technical control (posture, bow distribution, left-hand clarity)
Sound production and tonal consistency
Phrasing, structure, and musical interpretation
Performance preparation and stage confidence
Examination and audition preparation (ABRSM/ Trinity Grades 3+)

Progress is approached methodically, with an emphasis on precision, awareness, and musical understanding.

Online lessons are available for wider UK & internatioal students, offering the same level of technical focus and individual attention

Professional context

I am currently the violin teacher at The Russell School in Chorleywood and maintain a private teaching practice with students across the UK and internationally.

My work spans one-to-one tuition, group teaching, and educational settings in both state and independent schools, alongside ongoing performance activity in orchestral and concert environments.
